“Amateurs sit and wait for inspiration, the rest of us just get up and go to work.”
“I attribute my success to this: I never gave or took any excuse.”
“Why did you decide to switch from trucking to project management?”
Honestly, after years of running my own trucking business, I realized that what I really enjoyed wasn’t just the driving, it was the behind-the-scenes planning. Managing routes, coordinating deliveries, and handling unexpected issues on the fly. That kind of problem-solving and organization was something I naturally gravitated toward. I started learning more about project management and saw how much overlap there was, especially around logistics, time management, and communication. So I made the decision to formalize that interest, got my Google Project Management Certificate, and now I’m really excited to bring my real-world experience into a new space where I can grow and contribute in a bigger way.
“How did you prepare for this transition?”
Once I knew I wanted to shift into project management, I didn’t want to just wing it. I took the Google Project Management Professional Certificate to really learn the fundamentals like project life cycles, risk management, scheduling, and using tools like Asana and spreadsheets to track progress. On top of that, I started looking at my own experience through a project lens. Things like managing loads, coordinating with brokers, and adjusting plans when something went off track. I also started following PM professionals online and digging into real-world case studies to see how things play out on the job. So between the training and my own hands-on background, I’ve built a solid foundation and I’m ready to keep growing from here.
“Why leave a self-employed role where you were your own boss?”
Being my own boss taught me a lot from managing time and money to handling every problem that came up on my own. However, after a while, I realized I missed working with a team and being part of something bigger than just me. I enjoy collaborating, solving problems together, and having a shared goal to work toward. Project management really clicked for me because it lets me do all of that while still staying organized and lead, but within a team where I can keep learning and make a bigger impact. So for me, it’s not about giving something up it’s about leveling up and doing something more connected and long-term.

“I can be changed by what happens to me. But I refuse to be reduced by it.”
